As I think cronyism and regulatory capture are some of the worst problems facing our political system I was really hoping to give a strong positive review This is an important topic that needs clear, strident coverage Stridency IS something found in abundance in this book. There are two major problems with this book.1 Weaseling The author makes a large number of accusations of misdeeds and influence peddling, then effectively makes a case of why information about the accusations is hard to get a hold of But instead of saying I have limited evidence, due to various laws passed by cronies to prevent transparency, but I strongly believe that Senator Scumbag pushed crappy law X in order to benefit crony Y Instead he goes the conspiracist route and says Did he do this I don t know All I can think of was Cartman from South Park saying I m only asking questions.2 Promiscuous use of sources I went through several chapters nodding my head at anecdotes, many of which I had read before Then suddenly I hit a chapter on GMO foods and start reading about health hazard anecdotes that I know to be false, and panic laced stories about dangerous frankenfoods This put on edge when I came to the next chapter, which was about vaccines Two pages in and he was claiming that Andrew Wakefield was railroaded which is ironic because Wakefield was trying to game a system for his profit and would have been a good subject for the author s interests This means that I have to be very cautious about believing anything else he claims or cites in the remaining 290 pages.I agree with the authors premise and conclusions, and think it is reasonable that about 70 percent of the cases he sits are true and accurate But he lost my trust by looking too hard to back up his claims When he is losing the trust of someone who already agrees with him, his work has zero utility for converting people to his way of thinking.

WOW This is the word that slipped from my mouth over and over with each turn of the page I ve never had eye popping, jaw dropping moments than I did while reading this book It read like a horror novel, and I was absolutely appalled by some of the content.I m not blind to greed and corruption that plagues Governments worldwide, but I have to say that I was shocked by some of the things I learned about one of, if not The, most powerful leaderships on the globe Once again, it s a case of the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer, but things become sinister when people who line the pockets of those in power are afforded special privileges and are made to seem important than the average Joe It seems that just about any law can be overlooked for the right price, even if it is to the detriment of other human beings This disregard for others is disturbing, and leads me to ask the question, what has this world come to As stated in my review of Free Prices Now , another of Hunter Lewis eye openers, everyone needs to read this book I m not American, but I drew many parallels between what s happening in the US Government and what s happening in the South African Government No matter which form it comes in, it s a deadly virus that spreads through those in power, along with their affiliates, inflating their sense of entitlement.Lewis delivers a powerful message, and it s about time that people are informed and that they take note of how those we trust to run our countries, are really in it for their own advancement, and very rarely look at uplifting the masses.

I read this quite awhile ago but it still remains a timeless classic Observed is the transformation of America s political class Hunter Lewis catalogs how business interest has won the lobby of government, bringing out a stunning indictment Well researched, and supplemented with facts, it should remain a classic tool for those studying corrupt politics.

A well documented and extensively researched book regarding the unholy alliance of the Mussolini Hitlarian corporativist style of fascism between government and big business that exposes many industries not only in America but worldwide How there is a perpetual private public revolving door between those who run companies such as Goldman Sachs, Monsanto, General Electric and General Motors who then get into high office, or fund others during elections, to influence and construct legislation favouring the companies they use to work for, and who usually go back to work for after 4 years in politics, at the expense of us all Hunter Lewis has documented and footnoted well the causes and has named the characters involved in the crash of 2008,the bank bailouts, the missing 2 billion from MF Global, the pandering to uncompetitivehigh wage cost labour unions at the illegal usurping of property rights of GM and Chrysler bondholders, the protective non sue clause legislation for Monsanto most likely influenced by former Monsanto employee Michael Taylor who just conveniently happens to work for the Food and Drug Administration FDA and Monsanto s selling of genetically engineered foods which also happens to be a blatant contravention of code one of the Nuremberg code with its unlabeled genetically engineered foods being forced upon a generally unsuspecting public who have no idea of the long term multi generational ill health effects the consumption of these foods will have on Monsanto s experimenting on us like guinea pigs Mentioned are the studies of cancerous tumors experienced by rats that are fed a lifetime diet of genetically engineered food and how some mammals, by the third generation, become infertile But the FDA says it s O.K for us to eat these foods The subsidization of Solyndra, the ill effects of big pharma and the true eugenics agenda of the vaccination industry Its links to autism in the case of the mumps, measles, rubella vaccination, neurological diseases, sterilization and links to deaths and cancer in the case of the Gardisil vaccination and narcolepsi and the supression of the immune system with the H1N1 swine flu media scare a few years back The yearly flu shot vaccination, along with the other vaccinations mentioned also contain brain cell eating mercury a.k.a thimerisol, formaldyhide and aluminum as ingredients all the while the vaccination industry is also immune from being sued as well Studies have shown that by taking high doses of vitamin D are not only safe but much beneficial to preventing the flu than any vaccination has ever been This book reminds me of when I use to run a business and how between 15 and 25 years ago I came to the conclusion that we live in a fascist rather than a capitalist economy where special interests are given favour at the expense of anyone who may compete against the socalled established business ruling elite to the detriment of the consumer s freedom to choose This book illustrates well how corporate interests fund fat cat career politicians and their accompanying political staff, along with their gold plated pensions and salaries, parasitically and vampirically feeding and sucking off the taxpayers labour by enforcing licensure, employing legislative favouritism and regulations that are designed for the benefit of the established elite who are exempt from such legislation, to keep the marginal producers out of the business arena by protecting their business cronies who keepthem in power by funding their election campaigns to ultimately injure and not protect the consumer from unscrupulous business practices of expensive high profit margin low quality goods and services that government favouritism brings about.Due to our not having a capitalist economy in Canada either, I have and will continue to refuse to run a business or invest, other than in gold and silver mining companies ever again until we become a capitalist economy by eliminating all governments and abolishing theeconomically distortive, inherently bankrupt fractional reserve central banking system by returning to the gold standard as illustrated in Hunter Lewis s companion book to Crony Capitalism in America 2008 to 2012 Free Prices Now Fixing the Economy and Abolishing the Fed Although not mentioned, this book is a good look into the globalist, new world order, eugenics based depopulation police state, high tech spycontrol grid program of the United Nations Agenda 21, property rights destroying, fake save the earth, environmental movement based on junk science that is bent on the deindustrialization, fascistic and neo feudalistic path the third world has gone through and United States of America is currently going through A chapter exposing this fake environmentalist plot based on junk science of so called anthropogenic global warming, which hasn t occured in the past 16 years despite what the propagandist, bought and paid for government controlled media claims, caused by the essential nutrient to life, CO2 that plants breathe to produce oxygen is very much in the crony capitalist sphere of influence and would have added further value to the book It s not our industry and breathing that is an environmental threat but rather the fractional reserve inflationary, economic bubble creating banking system led by Goldman Sachs, J.P Morgan, Wells Fargo, Citibank to name a few in an industry of thousands worldwide, being backed up by the Federal Reserve and other central banks worldwide that causes the booms and busts and the ensuing economic human misery of death and destruction as a result the wholesale wrecking of our biosphere by companies like Monsanto, Dow Chemical and Sygenta through genetically modified organisms that may be irreversibly and permanently genetically altering life itself, the ongoing aerosol spraying in our skies with strontium, barium and aluminum by the military to control our weather, poison our soil, water and the air we breathe and the companies who sell industrial waste called fluoride to our municipal water systems claiming it is good for our teeth so the companies selling it such as fertilizer, nuclear and aluminum companies can save on storage and waste elimination costs at the company s end when Harvard studies have shown it to have an adverse effect on our health causing an average 20 point drop in I.Q s, bone cancer, dental fluorosis, other neurological diseases and has done nothing beneficial for our dental health.Fortunately, like the Soviet Union, this economic model of crony capitalism is currently in its death throes and is in the process of collapsing and destroying itself and those who run it I just hope that the people, despite the government charlatans claiming the opposite, will have awoken to the fact that our problems were the result of the lack of capitalism and that the heavy hand of thegovernment, socialism, cronyism, fascist collectivism under a fiat fractional reserve money system of creating this phony economy of creating money out of thin air was what created this mess, wrecked the family, is responsible for our declining standard of living hasexacerbated the gap between the rich an poor and that only a voluntary free society based on voluntary contractual relationships of individualism, private property, individual rights and freedom to trade with each other under a 100 percent reserve gold silver moneybanking standard of free prices, true capitalism, rising living standards from higher capital investment per worker employed through savings and labour saving technological innovation will flourish once again and make America a leader in industry and innovation she once enjoyed prior to 1914 Both books, Crony Capitalism 2008 2012, and Free Prices Now Fixing the Economy and Abolishing the Fed are slated for release in September of 2013 and I highly recommend the purchase of both to be brought up to speed of what is really going on in our economy of how its being destroyed through Keynesianism and how we can fix it by following the teachings of the Austrian School of Economics.

Political books tend to raise my blood pressure and this one is no exception We have seen such degradation of our country s politicians that it is no longer funny. Most are set for life because of special favors from lobbyist, company kickbacks and free government money They destroy their country for a life of luxury.Crony Capitalism shows that our country is not a society of Capitalism but of a joint venture between government and Wall Street to take as much from the tax payer as they can.It is a Win Win for big government politicians and big companies alike The companies give campaign money to politicians who then in turn pass laws that help that company while hurting their competition It is a Lose Lose for taxpayers and small business We get left with high taxes and bankruptcy. The middle and lower classes are exploited and left holding the bag as politicians and businesses steal from those who can least afford it.You got to love Washington I told you it would raise your blood pressure The sad thing is, in election after election, the people keep voting them in.Lewis has written a must read book If you like living with your head in the sand and want a soft and fuzzy book that gives you a warm feeling, this book is not for you If you want the cold truth about what is going on right under your nose, grab a copy today Buy a couple extra for your friends and family.Like it s companion book Free Prices Now I give it 5 out of 5 stars.I received this book, free of charge, from AC2 Books and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Crony Capitalism in America makes its debut at a significant time in American history Significant not only because of the global war that looms ahead, but because the beloved members of the two party system are coming together to blatantly turn their backs on the American voter in order to serve their own monetary interests in the Middle East Such a political alliance was a long time coming and Hunter Lewis proves why there is no difference between the Democratic and Republican parties when there is money to be gained Lewis highlights the areas where cronyism is at its most rampant politics, finance, food, medicine, labor, and law Each area could easily fill an entire textbook on corruption, but Lewis condenses each chapter remarkably It is a perfect introduction for the recently disillusioned American hoping to become privy to the corruption and lobbying of Washington D.C I personally find the format and writing style of the book invaluable During some chapters, Lewis uses bullet points and charts to dissect the controversial content, which has afforded me great leverage during arguments with progressive democrats and freedom loving republicans I can pull out Crony Capitalism and immediately locate my point of reference without having to look like a blithering, page turning idiot in the process Thanks, Mr Lewis

Not a narrative, this book is a collection of examples of American crony capitalism organized loosely by category politics, banking and finance, lobbyists, industry regulation, food policy, the healthcare sector, labor unions, lawyers and shakedown lawsuits The sheer volume of corruption and influence peddling that goes on in this country boggles the mind, and this book is by no means exhaustive As I ve long said, the unholy alliance between government and business is an existential threat to our liberties This book confirms it with mountains of hard evidence and examples. My one complaint is the infuriating nature of the footnotes The book is meticulously documented, yet the 480 endnotes are absurdly vague, and in many cases impossible to follow up on and corroborate Most of them just reference a publication or parent website, followed by a date My favorite is 255 September 23, 2010 That domain is a dynamic content delivery platform without permanent links Is this an insulting joke For a book about cronyism and unaccountability, the lazy quality of the endnotes was very frustrating and disappointing.

Lewis sets out to show that cronyism is rampant in contemporary American politics, and that s exactly what he does It s a compendium of data for those interested in seeing how unified business and government have become.
