SinopsisLa fea La rara La Nerd.

This is my first from this author the story itself was heartbreaking, as in I was told this was of a personal story to the author and a lot of the situations in the book, was from personal experience I hate that bullying is such a problem and cannot believe that it was such a problem between adults This Olivia, acted like she was in elementary school Then she acted like a jealous girlfriend instead of a sister.grossSo, Violet had been bullied all her life and her parents were just.not supportive, mainly her mom I don t understand how a mother could be so dismissive and patronizing She really got on my nerves and I thougth Violet deserved someone to fight for her I d have loved the dad to tell her mom off for being such a twat But, it didn t happen Going away to college and her mother letting her know she was on her own now that she had a younger kid to take her place she thought she was going to start over and be able to be herself without everyone being so nasty to her School was hard for Violet, everyone was awful to her A little than believable at times, I mean, I know kids are jerks but everyone that she came in contact with College is just as bad, because her roommateOlivia sidenote I ve never met a nice Oliviathey re always bullieswhat s up with that AnywayOlivia is the roomate and she s rude and entitled and bratty and I wanted so badly for Violet to punch her and then spit in her face She didn t..she didn t even stand up for herself Even broke up for the first guy to show her a little attention because she happened to be the guys sister Gag and when Jesse didn t beleive Violet, even when she was sickeningly nice about everything and everyone, even her bullies I didn t like him after that and I didn t believe their relationship at all I thought the whole time he was going to pull something THEN, after a whole book of bullying and being so incredibly mean and nasty, at the very last second for no apparent reason, the bully has a change of heart and guy is in love with her The parents never get put in their place 3 stars from me.

I was completely honored to Beta read this book Tracy really outdid herself with this story Violet is a girl that many can relate to She is smart and talented, but she also shows her vulnerability when dealing with others who don t see her for what she really isabsolutely beautiful in every way This book takes on the subject of bullying, and what it does to a person over time It s a harsh reality that many kids, as well as adults, still suffer from on a daily basis As the story unfolds, you see how strong Violet is when the world seems to be pushing against her You see her make friends and come out of her shell a bit But you also witness the heartbreaking result of harsh words and hateful actions Your emotions are on high while you fight beside her and cheer her on while she struggles to believe in herself You will love Jesse as he helps show Violet how truly beautiful she really is inside and out He s a wonderful guy with a heart of gold, and he only has eyes for Violet But he isn t the hero of the storyViolet is She is amazing Her thoughts and her words of poetry speak to many, but this story should be read by all This is not an ugly duckling story. This is a story about a phoenix rising from the ashes. This is a story of overcoming the worst and being brave enough to stand on your own. This is a story about a beautiful girl who stared ugly in the face and came out the winner.3 3

I was given an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review I feel this book is a solid 3.5 star read It delivered a powerful message in regards to self esteem, bullying, and the psychological ways experiences from childhood can continue to affect us into adulthood Overall, I felt the story would ve made sense if set in High School I found it very hard to believe people behave like this in college There were also a couple of issues I had with consistency and story continuity, but ignoring these issues I still felt it was a good story Violet, the main character, has always felt ugly because of how kids treated her in school and how she feels the lack of support and love from those around her, including her parents When she arrives at college, ready to put behind her horrible high school years, she realizes that perhaps college is just an extension of crappy high school when her new roommate turns out to be the devil incarnate She meets Jesse, the hot senior, who she quickly befriends As they continue to cross paths, Violet can t believe that Jesse would find her attractive I could relate to a lot of how Violet felt and her lack of self esteem As the story progressed I felt like the author could ve filled out the story better to further develop the characters and give them life I also was confused about the whole Facebook aspect In the beginning, it is noted that Violet doesn t do social media or even have accounts Yet later, when it seemed convenient to the story, she all of a sudden had an account The ending seemed rushed and I did not believe all could be so quick to forgive the devil incarnate But I understand it was supposed to be a light story Still, the message the author wanted to send out was definitely received and I m glad that she had the strength to write about such a painful experience, which she notes in the afterword This is a great book that hopefully a young adult audience will appreciate and listen to.

Bullying is a real issue in the world today As I was writing my review I was watching the news show the First Lady of the United States speaking at the UN yesterday about bullying Then they talked about how she was bullied online about her speech and the outfit she wore Violet, the main character in this book only saw herself as unattractive as a result of being bullied and having non supportive parents The emotional scars ran deep and affected her self esteem It was so easy for her to revert into her shell and not stand up for herself She saw herself as the bullies had portrayed her As time went on we saw Violet grow and become confident but the long term effects of the bullying were always under the surface Jesse was her roommates brother and he was definitely the hero of the book He only saw her as beautiful and smart and he continually relayed that to her With the support and unconditional love of Jesse we gradually saw a butterfly emerge from the cocoon I received an advance reader copy and voluntarily chose to review this book, Everyone should read this book and become aware of this problem in our society and the permanent harm it does to so many It s thought provoking.
