Once Upon A Time In A Land Of Human And Lycan Alike, There Lived A Beautiful Girl Named Ella She Was Adored By Her Family And Loved By A Prince But Ella Was A Shifter Which Meant She Could Never Bear Children And A Prince Must Have Heirs She Believed Herself Resolved To Her Fate Until Her Father Remarried And His New Wife Brought His Non Shifting Daughters To Live With Them Josef Has Loved Ella Since He Was Twelve Years Old, But He Has An Obligation To His Kingdom That She Can Never Fulfill Deciding His Son Has Delayed The Inevitable Long Enough, The King Gives Him Three Days To Name A Bride Or One Will Be Chosen For Him On The Last Day Ella Stuns Them All And Suddenly The Prince Has Hope Will They Find Their Happily Ever After With The Help Of The Goddess Herself A Cinderella Retelling Another short book picked to get my TBR pile down This is an intriguing one that I managed to read in one sitting It s a retelling of Cinderella but with werewolves The fun thing about knowing or thinking you know the story upfront is that it makes you keep reading long after you should have gone to bed is to see if it follows the tale you ve grown up with And it does keep the faith of the original as much as possible I found the whole book enchanting It read like the fairytale that inspired it The characters are richly described The wicked step mother is as horrible as you d expect I liked the supernatural twist Ella can t marry the prince as she is a shifter and therefor would struggle to provide an heir We had the Luna Goddess in place of the fairy godmother and the happy ending these stories insist on Re tellings of Disney and fairytale stories seem to be big at the minute I ve read a few now This is definitely one of the better ones Highly enjoyable.Free arc from netgalley Thank you Netgalley and Broad Universe for the chance to read this book OK, I m a sucker for a book with a pretty dress on the front cover In fact, I have been known to read buy books based ENTIRELY on how pretty the dress it Never mind that my own style can be described as casually rolled out of bed with a side of fandom jeans and a Harry Potter shirt, usually Suffice to say that is a GORGEOUS cover, and I am in love.So yes, the book This is a retelling of Cinderella, and that is obvious from the beginning This Ella has a bit spunk than most however, and a dedicated family and friend unit to keep her steady and yes, dry her tears At first I was a little skeptical was this Ella a wooden Disneyfied version, or would she grow on me And what was with the whole Lycan thing But well, grow she did A kind heart yes, but she was also loyal, spoke her mind and charitable She admits to being embarrassed and upset towards the end and needs help from others While she COULD have had faults to be a believable character, I felt like there was enough growth from the Disney version to make me like her and yes, I only know the Disney version before this Sozz I did feel like the Lycan aspect needs explanation So they are all Lycans, but if the girls are born shifters they cannot reproduce I can t help but feel that this trait would die out pretty quickly if that was the case I also needed transformations, and information ON transformations The one scene we got just wasn t really enough for me.I have a feeling the rather simple, almost old timey writing might be off putting for some I reminded myself this was a fairy tale retelling, and moved past it I know many like elegant prose, but while I found this writing a little plain, it also made it easy to understand and grasp what was going on in most instances So if you like fairy tales with a furry twist, this one might be for you Looks like it may be the first in a series too, which is always gives you something to look forward to Four stars. Ella and Josef have been childhood friends forever, and secretly in love for almost as long But Josef is the prince and Ella is a lycan, and she can never have children because she shifts during every full moon When her father marries an awful woman and introduces two non shifting daughters to take Ella s place and marry Josef, Ella knows she must step aside In their hearts, they know they are meant to be together, yet the rules are the rulesWhat a cute and delightful retelling of the Perrault version of Cinderella I hope that the author took the original furred slipper and got the idea for a werewolf Cinderella because that would be awesome Ella is kind and always ensures the emotions of others are met, but unlike other Cinderellas cough here s looking at you Disney cough cough this Cinderella is not a doormat for her step monsters to trample upon Ella is strong willed and fierce, and I really loved the addition of good female relationships and alternate mother relationships throughout the book, particularly with her sister in law Katrina and the queen. While there were some questions over the whole shifting thing view spoiler why does it seem to affect women during the moon and not men Maybe I missed something but it didn t seem well explained hide spoiler
