What a gloriously magical tale This book is so full of whimsy and beauty, but so deep and resounding in how it deals with darkness and trauma I was so captivated by this story from the first page. The characters are so real and complex Each new chapter reveals another layer of who they are, right down to the darkest shadows of their souls Peter s struggles of growing up and taking responsibility, Claire s of not fitting in Both of them not yet sure who they are Both of them dealing with trauma from the past in different ways I connected with them so deeply, and instantly fell in love with this wild ride of a fairytale. This whole book is so vibrant and magical I adored the setting of the London streets and how real it felt, while also so coated in pixie dust and magic But it was so perfectly balanced out against the darker scenes, the mistakes the characters kept making, the lies, the fears, the trauma.I was so entangled in this story, I couldn t put it down The action, the stakes, the deep connection to the characters, it kept me thinking about the book and itching to pick it up again The ending wrenched my heart out, but it was also perfect, and I officially CANNOT WAIT for the sequel, Shadow Trigger Content warnings view spoiler character attempted suicide in the past characters have self harmed a character had an abusive parent a character has abused and emotionally manipulated in the past and still is a bit during the story characters dealing with past trauma mild action scenes kidnappings characters get burnt by magic brief descriptions not too detailed of characters friends dying or turning evil hide spoiler

This book is the most magical and meaningful book I have ever read.Which is saying a lot because I read than Belle and Hermione combined I was captivated from page one of this story and delighted throughout. The Peter Pan character in this book is such a glorious hybrid of the classic Peter we all know and love and a Peter that is current and original and exciting. He s daring, and whimsical, and hilarious and he is also troubled in a way that is interesting and endearing.Every scene with Peter is a delightful adventure.Claire is everything I want in a heroine She is intelligent, brave, resourceful and curious I was deeply touched by how fearful of her own magic Claire was.As someone who has often felt misunderstood, I was greatly inspired and empowered by Claire s character arc, which is beautifully written. My own light is shining brighter because of the time I spent with Claire.I loved all the characters in the book, but will keep their identities secret so you can have the joy of discovering them yourself. The plot is amazing I am a Developmental Editor and so am very particular in assessing whether or not an author does justice to their clever concept.I had extremely high expectations when it came to DUST and Kara Swanson exceeded them in every way.Swanson s imagery is beautiful and her descriptions are so vivid that I felt as if I were experiencing the sights, smells, and tastes along with the characters. There are so many wonderful magical moments in this book that it is impossible to pick a favorite.I have read this story multiple times and have found something new to love each time. The magic your heart is longing for awaits you in this book

beams WHERE IS BOOK 2 I don t know why I didn t expect a cliffhanger Anyway, this is going to be a very scattered review because I wasn t able to review it right away, but definitely read this.Dust was beautiful It wasn t what I was expecting I m not sure what I was expecting, really, but I did read TGWCS and this was definitely its own unique style.I related so much to Claire, especially in unique ways as a chronic illness warrior Chronic illness isn t mentioned in the book at all, but so many of Claire s struggles were things I connected with because of my sickness I don t know Kara well enough to know for sure, but I suspect that might be because parts of it were influenced by her own experience with Lyme disease I especially LOVED how well done the magic was in this book It was so creative and I could always picture it so clearly It made me want to fly off into the London sky Plus, it was set in London So that was fun All the characters were also very well rounded No one was too perfect, but I understood why they each did what they did Content Warnings A character remembered a suicide attempt in their past although I m still unclear if it was a true suicide attempt or not Kidnapping, fighting, people almost getting burned to death, a pretty horrible but not very described death A kiss Words that I think were mild British cuss words But I d never heard most of them before, and so to me they didn t feel like cussing.Despite some of the gruesome stuff mentioned above, it really wasn t as dark as I had prepared myself for It is about a boy who never wants to grow up, after all Kara really is talented at creating such beautiful climaxes and scenes I thought that kiss scene in TGWCS was so cool, but there are so many beautiful moments not kissing like that in Dust. Finally, the quotes There are so many I can t share rn because of spoilers, but here are some of my favorite non spoiler quotes You were created for than to bear the weight of your shadows but you have to choose to no longer let them define you You have to choose to let the light shine through the shattered pieces Even the pirates are staring at me like I m a monster Maybe I am My dream was my darkest nightmare all along So, I do what I do best The impossible I guess I shall make myself stop there But this was just beautiful Beautiful is the adjective I keep coming back to for this book.

A vibrant, heartbreaking, and magical story of hope and discovering that with faith, trust, and a little pixie dust the way to your home is the second star to the right, and straight on till morning This truly felt like J.M Barrie s classic come to life in our world Peter felt like he WAS a mature version of the Peter Pan I grew up reading Kara set the tone of his personality and character so I heard him crow triumphantly, or pictured Peter flying on his belly, taunting Hook with an impish grin His cheekiness got to me And Claire was so real her struggles and fears and I loved witnessing her courage to let others in, even when they disappointed and betrayed her The twists and turns of this story were delightful and kept me wondering about Hook s plot and the scheme to find Neverland I need Book II PRONTO Dust releases this July, so be sure to preorder to get one of the limited release hardcovers

This book was a fantastic blend of old fashioned fairy tale and modern urban fantasy The pacing was quick, the pov deep and the stakes high I loved the humor and dialogue style Swanson chose for this story But aside from all the fun, fantasy and villainry, the message of hope and a way over and through the darkness was beautifully presented and heart touching But seriously someone make Peter eat vegetables Too many sweets is not good for a growing boy.

stunned silence I loved this so much Dust instantly dragged me in and captivated me the whole time I was reading and even when I wasn t It s so beautiful and broken and hope filled Through Claire s and Peter s journeys, it shows the pain of not fitting in, of growing up, and of loss But it also reveals the light in the darkness, the stars that peek through the shadows, and it s so amazing to read If the beginning of this gorgeous adventure is any indication, then Shadow will be epic, too And I can t wait to read the sequel 3 3 I received an eARC of this book, and I was not required to write a positive review.

This book was as magical as pixie dust.Kara weaves together a beautiful tale of magic, hope, grief, and learning to grow up I was blown away again and again by her gorgeous writing style.Claire and Peter are great protagonists Claire is a broken yet beautiful girl Peter is, as always, the boy rebelling against growing up and cracking jokes at the same time It was so inspiring to watch them grow throughout the story 3I loved how Dust continues the story of Peter Pan The plot was perfectly paced, and the plot twists left me wondering WHAT JUST HAPPENED.But I loved the theme most of all It reminded me to look to the stars, take a deep breath, and realize that there is still light in darkness.Dust is a beautiful, hopeful story, and I cannot wait for the sequel 33 Hope is a little like pixie dust it shines brightest in the darkness and makes the soul soar Dust
